Time to remember

After promising myself that I will be regularly posting, I disappointed myself (as usual?). Well, the whole of 2009 passed and I didn't write a single post. However events do happen regardless of whether I record them or not.

First just to recall what major stuff has happened in my life in last year.
- I got a brand new DSLR canon EOS1000D sometime in april.
- I visited Guna, MP.
- I got a car, a Tata Indica Vista Quadrajet Aura (5 words' name... too much of naming..)
- One of the most memorable trip, which lasted till the start of 2009 - My trip to Rajasthan (Jaisalmer, Jodhpur and udaipur in that order). I just saw that in the list of blogs, I had a draft prepared on 17th jan, 2009, but never completed it.. deleted it today. I will write a blog on that sometime.
- A small trip to Kasauli and chail with Mohit and Nimesh. Stayed at Mohit's place with all the homely comforts. lost the camera bag with some accessories .. :-(
- Got a nice telephoto zoom lens 70-300mm USM IS(both camera and lens : courtesy my friend Vinay in US :-) )
- some upheavals in office (ssshhhhh...)
That as far as I can remember with my much criticized memory. I have made this post to remind myself about this nice timepass that helps sometimes in recording events, sometimes liberating oneself, sometimes just talking non-sense...but most importantly a reason for retrospective and thinking forward...! So, hopefully...this will be continued ...

Few memories never fade...

After a really looooooooong time, I could finally come back in blogging mode. There is a lot that has happened in over a year since I posted on 360.yahoo.com.

I cannot move ahead without remembering one good friend Sai Pramod. I still remember him sometimes and wish the incident never would have happened. He was a very good human being and I had a good time with him, though not much. He was with me at Poseidon Design Systems. I moved to delhi to join another company and one morning just after christmas I got this unfortuntate news.

Well, I think this post is just dedicated to him. We miss you Pramod...

A leap to Mekedatu (last post from 360.yahoo.com)

Image

It was last weekend(sat-01/04/07) when we tightened throttles of our bikes over a stretch of 85-90 Kms to reach Sangam-mekedatu, an outing spot where Kaveri flows. Sangam is the place where two rivers arkavati and kaveri meet. One would find just knee-deep water in most part of this place. Cross it and go to Mekedatu by a bus or by walk if you are of trekking type. This would be a trek of 4-5 Kms. The name is derived from the legend that the distance between the banks was so less that even a goat could leap over. Meke(goat) + datu (Leap) = Mekedatu.

Image
On the way to Sangam/Mekedatu
Although I had been to this place 2 yrs back, but not by bike. In fact, it was my roommate's(Avinash) interest in biking that resulted in this trip. We three roommates and 6 collegues of one(Vipin) of us, started-off on 5 bikes on sat morning. We initially planned to leave bangalore latest by 6:30, but as usual there were two members(Ravi & Shakti) on one bike(had a interesting incident later), who ensured our departure to be not before 7:30.

Image
Sangam
Around 10:00 we were at sangam, after having 3 stops (1 planned + 2 forced). I cannot move forward before recalling what made us to stop, twice more than planned. As soon as we took the first of these two stops, it was evident that there is one guy among us who did a 'believe it or not' stuff, by taking out his bike, which was almost nil on brakes. You might have guessed what happened next!!. It wouldn't have been a guesswork indeed for anyone of us had we knew the state of that machine before the start. Ravi, who was the driver of this story, was either too courageous or too enthusiatic to take that bike, which promises its rider a tough time even inside the city. This fact came to the fore soon as the inevitable happened, barely after entering the ghat-section. It was lesser than usual ghat turn but steep enough to test brakes of each one's bike. Although it seems to be serious incident, but I should mention here that it had a great deal of comic touch in the way it happend. The biker infront of Ravi applied the brakes and in an attempt to save himself from banging in that bike, Ravi went straight to fall over after covering 10-15 mtr of ground. I happened to be the helpless witness of the incident as I was the next to take turn. I could tell that I had enough time to think every fraction of second that they are going to stop, as they covered a long stretch, without much difficulty. But, in the end as the bike stopped, they toppled over to be later found unhurt. We found that they were not the first one, as there were lots of broken parts already on the ground stating the tale.

The reason for the second stop was more intense in both, seriousness and hilariousness... :-) . As soon as we started back for our destination, within a KM, we found another turn but little more riskier than the previous one. This time I was ahead of Ravi, and just after succesfully handling the turn, made sure by turning my head back, that I happen to be the witness of this one too. I, frantically started blowing my horn to signal two bikes which were ahead of me to stop. Unfortunately, Ravi and Shakti were not second time lucky as they suffered bruises, which ensured that they remain a mere spectator to the enjoyment we had inside water later on... :-( . Ofcourse, on the way back these two guys were made to have pillion ride.

Coming back to Sangam; we thought that it will be good to walk till mekedatu, and decide once we reach there about taking a bus back or not. It was moderately tiring as bright sunlight shown us the way. Gaurav(Vipin's collegue), told us the horrid but exciting time he had when he made it to that famous sakleshpur-abondoned-railway-track trek. Me and Avinash have been feeling for that for a long time; don't know when it will come true. Gavurav had the only digicam in our group to keep the memories of trip captured. We reached mekedatu after an hour or so, to find that as sangam this place too is having many visitors(was quite obvious on a saturday). Me and Avinash, who was there in my previous visit, decided to go near water to check if it is possible like last time, to take a bath here itself. What we heard before last visit and couldn't witness was very much visible this time; the gushing sound and ferocious flow of water. We decided that unlike last time we'll have to make a u-turn and hope to find water-solace back at sangam.

We took the bus on our way back, which, if addressed as four walls of metals, sounds more appropriate. The water-flow here too was little more than what we experienced last time, but it is always a risk-free zone. We spent around 1-1/2 hours there in the water before getting struck by the thought of possible bike-driving in night. Well, when we knew that we have to drive those bikes which includes the one that already kissed earth twice before, it was very difficult to delay our expedition back to bangalore.

Came back to bangalore around 7-7:30 p.m. Gaurav was the courageous one who took upon the brave task of driving the cursed bike, albeit alone. We were happy to reach back with no more untoward incidents. I couldn't remember clearly what exactly I had that night in dinner, anyway it didn't matter as the more enticing task was left....what else but sleeping!!!

woke up just to give a recount of this trip.... Zzzzz.....!!!

Shahid-E-Azam

Shahid-E-Azam magnify
Although its quite late now, but that doesn't take anything away from his sacrifices and valour he had shown 75 years back. So, I am happy and take pride in saying that I remebered him on 23rd march morning itself. I thought for this blog actually last week only, but somehow (I love this word...distracts your attention and solves my purpose ;-) ) couldn't make it.

In most contexts when talking about a hero of past, it usually has heartening effect when it is said that his/her vision is still very much applicable even after so many years. As you might have guessed, I was just thinking that contrary to this, how dishearteining it is that Shaheed Bhagat Singh's ideology is still very much applicable in today's Bharat. There is nothing wrong in understanding anybody's ideology, however, motivation behind it should be knowledge and not need even after 75 years. Laugh or cry, but the fact is multiplied, then it was the need of 37 crore, today more than 100 crores need it. This could be precisely, but not the only, reason for facing this fact of today. There were chain of events, which I think were responsible for this ideology being locked into a ignored box. The mass-influence before and power after independence, was shared by those, who were too busy establishing themselves in history books as heroes of struggle. It was conveniently thought by them that there is no need for us, the coming generations, to know the effect that 2nd world war has in liberating all the colonies, worldwide. Let's not digress anyway and give undue attention to spoilers, but praise who were never afraid to lay themseleves to rest to see others dancing in joy of freedom. Seldom though, we understand that we are not enjoying the freedom, those shaheeds wanted us to.

If there were such incomparable souls then there were others too, who remained outstandingly inspirational by following the same fate for the same cause. Shaheed Sukhdev and Shaheed Rajguru, were the ones who lightened the flame stonger, by following an idea which was someone else's and shared the highest honour.

I read few days back that grand nephew of Shaheed Bhagat Singh is going to take out books/CDs having original pages from the book he wrote, while he was in jail. It would be interesting to get an insight into the mind, which was not bothered of, what to wear next day in office, instead, was capable of capturing attention till date.

Captive mind of mine, remains in captivity.....

Why women's day only?? Got the answer ..!

I just heard her yesterday on radio city with Vasanthi on "Good morning bangalore". At first I thought her to be just another feminist, who came on radio to celebrate the week which can be termed as women's week (for all commercial purposes at least). However, that thought didn't stay for long and infact I gradually got interested in what she is trying to convey.
She was Jasmeen talking about almost every aspect associated with 'eve teasing'. One could visit this site to know about a project which she has started to fight against this most suffered problem (turns out to be the most feared dilemma for many)
I just realized that I, who thought, he knows and cares about many social diseases, is still innocent when it came to this commonly occuring hazard. Believe me, I really gave a thought about using word 'innocent' or 'ignorant' in the previous sentence before settling down for the former. This was what precisely the reason to ask the silly question that became topic of this blog. Ofcourse, there is not just one but many reasons for reminding us that, "Incidentally being a part of this biological race doesn't essentially makes anyone a human". 'International Women's day' is one such reminder. Now, no wondering and debating on "why only women's day and not men's day?". As a matter of fact there are few places in the world where men's day is celebrated viz. brazil, ukraine etc.(different dates) and in our own india too. Yes, the day is september 29 every year and today is the first time I came to know about this... :-( . Although, one can feel the enthusiasm and intensity of this day by the fact that there is no single such day celebrated across the planet and thus nothing truly as 'international men's day'. After reading something like ...
Annie's & Hemangini's experience,
I really request everyone to not remind me that I fall into a category, which is seen with many ugly doubts and thoughts by these sufferers.
Well, there is another aspect of the story that there are infact people like me, who just remain unaware of something so common (its very common, comments on A&H's blogs corroborate this). Although I am not 100% true about myself but certainly didn't know the extent of problem. So, made a record in my blog to keep this learning day with me.
I have concluded that there could be certain reasons for those acts of women (strangers primarily) that were beyond my comprehension and which I termed as really weird. In hindsight infact, I feel those acts indeed would have been comprehensible only if I belonged to that hated community or at the least if I knew about existance of such community (Which I know of, now).
I hope that more of such programmes and awareness activities gets organized than merely focussing on females with archies cards and roses in hand.
The debate, for me at least, ends. I have got the answer.

Window of perception

What it is?? No, its not about that latest britannia bicuit ad.!!
It is about the window of perception which suddenly became so interesting to me. A question came to my mind "Is it because of my window of perception is shifted OR Iam looking through a different window altogether? Got one possible answer; There is so much of filth lying around that it is irrelevant to try and move to another window, or, would the better option be to come out and have a full view?". As a matter of fact, I am afraid to come out !

After coming across so many incidents(in a very short duration), I feel it is certainly not change in my perception, but it is now a fact that our social reality is frightening. Jessica lal's case is the latest addition in that stack of untouched stories. Although media did its bit, but what can we say about that touch which makes a leprotic hopeful of getting his/her body moved and then suddenly having a dreadful sense of negligence as that touch was taken back even before it could serve its purpose. Here, the irony is that, contrary to common belief, even if you choose to stay away, the decease gradually clutches everyone of us.

I saw lately, news content getting filled more with various scams, loots, and the worst 'murders'. 'Nothing new in this' is what I felt initially because the worst was yet to be known, and that was the way victims got treated. Ofcourse, gone are the days (if at all they were there), when culprits used to get a treatment. Now, I am trying to feel for:
1. Jessica Lal's sister
2. Kargil's heroes' parents
3. OH...I started forgetting lot of them too...!

How does one explain the act of these helpless women in nagpur. Obviously this is something new, having an underlying reason, which is so obvious but still so overlooked.

I saw a news about Jessica's case , then read Ankush's blog, had a discussion about kargil with one collegue, read about IPO scam. Then a slightly different news but worth looking, the announcement made against M.F. Hussain(btw this could be a separate discussion as I feel his deeds are indeed outrageous). But the point is, nothing among these I initiated, then is this a coincidence OR a result of watching movie called Rang De Basanti OR change in perception ... OR bitten by REALITY??
What it is??

Where am I going? don't know, but I hope I feel for the third point stated above even more than the other two....might help me in finding out the answer..!

Is dohre ehsaas mein jeena asaan nahi.
Andhere mein darr par kaabu karna asaan nahi,
Kaash ke kamal-sparsh ke liye kichad se na jaana padta,
Ishq khwab se karte aur hakikat mein na aana padta!!!

RDB - What a colour!! (Sarfaroshi ki tamanna)

Feel the colour ...!!

Sarfaroshi ki tamanna ab hamaray dil mein hai,
dekhna hai zor kitna baazuay qaatil mein hai
karta nahin kyun doosra kuch baat cheet
,
dekhta hun main jise voh chup teri mehfil mein hai
aye shaheed-e-mulk-o-millat main teray oopar nisaar
,
ab teri himmat ka charcha ghair ki mehfil mein hai
waqt aanay dey bata denge tujhe aye aasman
,
ham abhi se kya batayen kya hamare dil mein hai
khainch kar layee hai sab ko qatl honay ki ummeed
,
aashiqon ka aaj jumghat koocha-e-qaatil mein hai

It had to get a place here..as today would be the second time I witness this masterpiece.

Well, my suggestion would be that don't be of critical view and enjoy the movie to the fullest, but if u choose to be the one instead, it still manages by a long way in making your evening. It touches the patriotic chord which emanates music for quite a long time.

I was going through a online article before watching the movie even for the first time, which had responses from the readers. Guess what, my curiosity ended that very second when I read a half sentence stating climax scene.. :-( . I was very upset about knowing the end now and thought there won't be much of fun in watching. Moreover, I didn't like what I came to know (don't worry it is not mentioned anywhere here). As this was not enough, Meha, told me something about the climax, to which I didn't object thinking that what worse can come now..! But , as soon as she completed the first sentence, I realized that what I knew was only a part, and now I know everything.

It was saturday (12/02/06) evening that we decided to watch. I was little apprehensive about how much impact knowing climax can have?? But thanks to the storyline, I didn't regret my previous curious activites. Even better, I liked the end after seeing the movie.

One of my roommates told me (b4 12th) that one of his collegue was too impressed by the movie and gave a statement which was quite amusing to me... It went like this "Agar hindustaani ho to movie dekhni hi padegi". Though I still(after seeing the movie) don't endorse it, but certainly don't feel that it was that outrageous comment .. :-). The movie, for sure, makes u think for sometime. At one point I thought, let's just regard this as just another movie, but the very next moment I was facing a Question "What will be that something which can make me move my limbs instead of just few neurons??" Only time will answer but I hope that this enthusiastic piece of work stops the search. Sometimes I even feel, that more than movie actually had an impact on me, I want myself to accentuate it. Few of u might feel this if I decide to remind u about my blog by mailing ;-) .

Go for it !! Let me enjoy it again today !! A deserved candidate for 'the best' till now for me..! In addition, I still savour The Legend of Bhagat Singh by rajkumar santoshi.

R u computer literate?? then enjoy this..!

I don't remember how I got into this...but here it is ...!
Here is an excerpt from a site which talks about computer stupidities ... :-)

-------------

When I was still in the military, back in 1999, I was on the Y2K compliance committee that the base formed. As part of my job, I was told to send a letter to every department on the base and receive a reply back from them on their preparation and readiness for Y2K. If they failed to respond, I was to follow up with another letter. If that didn't work, it would go to the Base Commander and he would get involved. Some fun right?

Well, the base had just had some new contracting work done. And I was told to include the people who'd done the work on the list.

This was the letter I got back from the contractors.

With regard to your letter concerning the effects of the "Y2K" phenomenon, it is our belief that the sewer lines we installed at your facility will continue to function in spite of any chronological tracking system's arbitrary recognition of any particular day, including but not limited to January 1, 2000, albeit, the Gregorian, ecclesiastical, or even the obscure Stonehenge-based Druidic Calendar.

However, should the sun's rise or setting on any day affect the Newtonian laws of physics with regards to the gravitational fields, then not only will we all either fly off into space, or be crushed into the Earth with unimaginable pressure, but the contents of the sewer main and the mains themselves will also be subjected to the same fate, or maybe not.

Please contact this office at extension XXXX if you require any additional information.

-------
one more ...

  • Customer: "What's going to happen to my computer when the year 2000 hits? Will it just not work anymore, or what?"
  • Tech Support: "Actually, the year 2000 problem is this: it seems most of the computer code up until recently had been written assuming that the first two digits in the year of any date were "19." So basically, some of these applications, when the year 2000 rolls around, will reflect "1900," rather than "2000." Of course, there weren't any computers around in the year 1900, and so your computer will simply disappear."

After looking very concerned for a few seconds and saying nothing, I reassured him I was joking.

Two weekends of travel

Last two weekends I travelled to two cities far from each other and diverse in look. First weekend of these I had a relishing time in Hyd'bad, which started off a little early due to thursday being 26th Jan. I am being very sincere in using word 'relishing'. How else would you describe a vacation where you get a homely atmosphere, kids to play with and on top of that authentic Gajar Ka Halwa made by my mother's hands? As if that was not enough (although it was not indeed in my case), my sister too made it especially for me...Image

The occasion was my niece's birthday on republic day. Most of the time I spent at my sister's home only, not by compulsion or lack of time, but by choice. Ofcourse, I needed sometime to finish all of halwa .. ;-). Ahh, those three days just flew passed so quickly, but gave a refreshing feel. I came to know before leaving for hyd'bad that railways have now made Nagpur, a stop for sampark kranti (in addition to hyd'bad and bhopal). I felt relaxed as finally somebody thought the obvious and did it. I immediately cancelled my earlier booked ticket to delhi and booked a fresh money saving one to hyd'bad. After coming back I felt refreshed, which assisted me in looking forward to one more trip to a faraway place called Delhi.

This was even shorter trip just to attend a marraige, which I was seeing as an opportunity to get acquainted to close relatives from my father's side. The reason is, this was only the 5th trip to north (from nagpur) in my lifetime, which resulted in me just vaguely remembering the paternal family structure. I strengthened it to a certain extent, but how much will only be answered in next trip. I reached there on saturday early morning, woke up at 5:00 a.m. and left on sunday night at 8:00. In between, I got only 6 hrs of sleep Image, as it was a night marriage and I stood most of the night taking photographs.

As I don't want to be the last in queue, looking forward for a possible chance of seeing Rang De Basanti this weekend. After hearing so much anout this being a big hit and knowing b'lore, I think, I anyway wouldn't have got the tickets last two weekends. I am praying that I get tickets this weekend...makes me feel b'lore needs even more theatres OR may be the ones that are far from each other to cater needs of different areas. Anyways, waiting to watch this hugely popular patriotic creation.

Let's be roobaroo with RDB's paathshaala.....!

Makkalidurga trek

makkalidurga trek magnify

It is already late(did on 7th Jan) to write about it, but better late than never.. :-)
Just log and have no backlog .... I know it is a bad one....reminded me one of my friend named Tejas.

Well, let's carry on with the trek story. It was a manhattan CC experience club membership which gave me an opportunity to do something different from routine. I was already regretting an earlier chance (sakleshpura trek ). Although I was pretty sure that this could be nowhere near that but still I just wanted to move out.

We (Me and future life partner 'Meha') started in the morning 6:30 to catch the vehicle, manhattan guys have arranged (actually outsourced to woody adventures). To my surprise, I found that only five of us were enthusiastic enough to wake up and reach there. Out of other three guys, one left when we were just about to board the vehicle saying that there won't be much of fun with just five of us. I wonder what really people of this kind want on a trekking trip.... got an answer?... no no don't be so narrow in your thoughts. It might be that he just wanted to have friendship with little more interesting people ( although subjective to his definition of 'interesting' .. ;-) ) than his other two boring friends (who agreed to go irrespective of the no. of trekkers). However, Truth is that, even I was little disappointed in seeing just four of us but still carried on as the fun lying ahead was beckoning. I hope you must have noticed the first word of last sentence which is to emphasize that I obviously had different reason to get disappointed (You see...future life impacts present life.. ;-) ).

Cut short, we were at the foothill in around 2 hours. It was just across a railway track, which one of the other two trekkers claimed to be the one used by karnataka exp. The guy from organizers lead us as we started off for the top. We had just taken few steps and me and Meha cursed the last day's traffic jam, which deprived her of a nice pair of shoes to be bought. She decided to take her sandals off and carry-on barefeet. I intially thougt that this is a brave but foolish decision, only to find later that I was wrong in judging her ability. There is always some nice scenery waiting for you while climbing any hill, which in this particular case comprised of two lakes on either side, apart from usual greenery. We reached at the top in about another 1-1/2 to 2 hours. There was a small Shiva temple. We offered prayers and than stayed there for some 1/2 an hour to enjoy snacks brought by the organizer. One thing in particular I liked about this guy, apart from his knowledge and stories about previous treks, is that he was very careful about not leaving behind any plastic waste to ruin the natural beauty. Although this must be a usual trait of such trekking enthusiasts but rarely seen in city animals.

We started back and searched a proper(plain) place to enjoy the best part of the trip. Our organizer brought few kites with him, which kept us engaged for around 1-1/2 hour. This is one thing I recommend to everyone who is planning for such trek as there is plenty of breeze up there to support even a newbie. The sun was bright and rocks' surface were heated-up. I could see Meha somehow coping-up with the heat and carry-on for a slow but continued descend. An amazing feat indeed as per my experience of trekking. After reaching back (4:00) to our vehicle we had our lunch and visited a nearby lake for 15 mins.

While on our way back I just thought that we were really lucky as we were just FOUR, which made it possible to go into a cave like place and trying few tiring things. Finally enojyed a saturday much more than previous ones and made comfortably back to home in time. I should add in the last that although there is not much of organization hassles involved in such small treks but still whatever it was in this case, was good enough to appreciate. I want to keep logging-in such trips so that I get encouraged, inspired and kicked for further endeavours.

will be back soon...!

Few special moments!!

Few special moments!!

"Don't believe your friends when they ask for you to be honest with them. All they really want is to be maintained in the good opinion they have of themselves."
- Albert Camus

Isn't it subjective??
Some people may feel that a friend is one who is always there to listen everything they feel and face. Other may prefer friends to just share but not interfere. I personally feel, anyway there could not be a single rule or definition which can judge a good friend for you. What finally matters is that your comfort level while spending time (or I should say Good Times) with a friend.

I will leave this discussion for some other time as there is a better part of my life than thoughts waiting to get logged in here. I had a wonderful visit few days back (to be precise 23rd-25th Dec) to pune. Occasion was, one of my schoolmates(Amit) came back from US for one month. He is pursuing his PhD, for which another one year is left. Me, he and other two friends just thought to turn this occasion into a get-together. This is what I wanted, and was enough to make me move this lean but lazy physique to pune.

"The best thought comes when you are least bothered", I heard this few times, happen to struck by one on my way to pune in bus. I just called up Amit and during talk, out of nowhere sprung an idea of having PuranPoli next afternoon. Well, when the start itself happened with puranpoli (sweet is my weekness) that too not 1 or 2 but 4-5 (as I remember)than what could go wrong.

Same day evening headed to mumbai to start off the get-together. Our two shayane friends were there to entertain us. One of them is an Indian Naval Officer(Prasenjit), by virtue of which we had our way to a very spacious and peaceful colony located at seashore. He addressed Navy personals as poorest people in the richest place. This was evident when he told that the real estate prices in that area (Colaba) are touching sky as 1 Sq. Ft. costs around 40K INR. This triggered the sense of place, I started enjoying more, the privileges I was getting ;-).

Next day we were joined by my 3rd friend's (Vinay's) wife to visit his ship(INS Dunagiri)! That was entertaining as well as informative. Our day started off very late as we slept very late last night, thus, giving us time only for this visit before we headed back to pune. I can never forget that lifetime experience. We as usual were smart enough to decide runtime that it would be better to take a train than going to dadar and taking a bus. I had a intense urge to travel once in a local train of Mumbai, which couldn't took off as my friend had car. Although local train travel, could have been different but my friends (Amit and Vinay) tell that this journey also was very close to that. We went in 'general' compartment, to witness 'one of its own kind' record. It was full in CST itself, but was told to me by my fellow passenger that dadar will fill it up a little more. Next was kalyaan to worsen the case. To sum up the whole scene I can just tell, that guys were sitting even on doors ... :-O !!

Well we reached back to pune at the stroke of midnight and could reach back to Amit's place. Attended one of my friend's marriage and headed back for B'lore next day.

In all of these the moments I cherish most are the ones we spent at seashore lawn (courtesy Official Navy Club) and ofcourse that night talks which lasted from sunset to sunrise. Hope, we have more of such in future.

When friends meet, the occasion becomes special, and I realised that this was the most effective way of enjoying life and sneaking away from the day-to-day worries.

Enjoy :-)

ShubhAarambh!

ShubhAarambh!!
